South Valley University Participates in the Quarterly Meeting of the Coordination Committee for the Project against the Negative Effects of Harmful Traditional Practices, Including Female Genital Mutilation and Child Marriage in Upper Egypt


 

Under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Akkawi, President of South Valley University, and Dr. Mohamed Said, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, the University’s Unit for Combating Violence Against Women participated in the quarterly meeting of the Coordinating Committee for the project addressing the negative effects of harmful traditional practices, including female genital mutilation and child marriage in Upper Egypt. This project is presented by “Plan International Egypt” at the General Egyptian Library.

Dr. Hala Khair Sanari, Professor of Mental Health and Director of the Unit for Combating Violence against women, stated that the purpose of this meeting is to benefit from current efforts in the communities and to develop plans and strategies to support and promote reproductive health rights. This aligns with the national direction to eliminate female genital mutilation and reduce the prevalence of child marriage. The meeting was attended by various government and local leaders from Qena Governorate and supporters of reproductive health rights from Sohag Governorate.
