Under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Akkawy, President of South Valley University, and Dr. Mohamed Said, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, the university’s Unit for Combating Violence Against Women participated in the coordinating committee meeting for the project addressing the negative effects of harmful traditional practices, including female genital mutilation and child marriage in Upper Egypt. This project is presented by Plan International Egypt and took place at the Public Library of Egypt.
Dr. Hala Khair Sanary, Professor of Mental Health and Director of the Unit for Combating Violence against Women, stated that the meeting aimed to present the key activities carried out in coordination with various government sectors, highlight the different challenges faced, and outline the planned initiatives and coordinating activities for the upcoming period. A comprehensive presentation of the “Path to the Future” project was also made, with participation from numerous government and local leaders in the governorate, including representatives from the Ministry of Awqaf, media, the National Council for Women, the Directorate of Social Solidarity, the Directorate of Education, the Child Protection Unit at the Governorate Headquarters, the Health Directorate, various associations, and the Directorate of Labor.
