Under the auspices of President of the University Prof. Dr. Abbas Mansour, a seminar on drug abuse and addiction was held in collaboration with Addiction Treatment & Abuse Fund in Cairo. Prof. Dr. Mona Bestawy, Dean of Faculty of Arts, defined addiction as a chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences. It is considered a brain disease because drugs change the brain; they change its structure and how it works. These brain changes can be long lasting and can lead to many harmful, often self-destructive, behaviors. She also referred to treatment approaches that has included medications, behavioral therapies, or their combination .At the end, she asserted that the university’s support to all students’ activities as they are the future of home.
