As information is the main nerve of the technological advancement competition and for the main objective of progress and being up-to-date in information technology age, South Valley University has paid much attention and interest to information and communication technology. It addition, SVU has proposed a plan for development of the university information network and for supplies it with all required capabilities to achieve the mission of SVU and to serve objectives of development in Egypt. The university has also been preparing a project for maintenance and managmenet of an integrated information system. SVU has also focused its efforts to contribute to the integrated system and developed institution of education development.
Information and communication network at SVU is considered one of the first universities’ networks as it ws initiated in 1995 through two progressive stages. The first stage includes connecting the main sites of Qena and Souhag. The second stage includes connecting the main branch of Aswan and extensions which have been very clear in faculties of the university in its different branches. Moreover, all faculties inside the main campus of SVU have been connected to the central branches of Qean, Souhag and Aswan using a Fiper Optics network. The speed of the connection line has been increased with the supreme council of the Egyptian universities to be 2 MB/S in Qena and Souhag and to 512 in Aswan. In addition, the speed of the connection line has been increased in faculties which are located outside the university campus including Qena Faculty of Education, Qena Faculty of Specific Education, Faculty of Fine Arts at Luxor, Faculty of Engineeriong at Aswan, Faculty of Agriculture at al-Kawthar. Faculty of Education at Hurghada is being connected to the main campus.
Each branch of SVU includes one server or more as a Backbone for Fiber Optics, a router, and modem devices to connect the communication and information center to the network of Egyptian universities.
