President of South Valley University Welcomes the Student Team Winning First Place in the “Green Generation Hackathon”

Prof. Ahmed Akawy, President of South Valley University, received a student team from the Faculty of Agriculture that won first place at the national level in the National Youth Sustainability Hackathon – Green Generation, as part of the Black Soil team. The competition was organized by UNESCO in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports with the aim of encouraging students to transform their ideas and innovations into practical projects and viable products. It further sought to assess students’ scientific and technical capacities, as well as their acquisition of diverse experiences and skills, in alignment with the principles of the National Higher Education Strategy and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

The winning project focused on the recycling of plastics and organic waste using pyrolysis technology to produce a novel material called “DevoBlack.” This innovative technique contributes to land reclamation, soil fertility enhancement, and water purification, thereby advancing the goals of environmental sustainability and green entrepreneurship.

Prof. Akawy congratulated the winning team members, which included Eng. Hassan Mohamed Hassan and Eng. Mohamed Abu Shelah, graduates of the Faculty of Agriculture, alongside current students Osama Ahmed Abdelhamid El-Shater and Sara Nahaas from the Faculty of Agriculture.
