Launching the second international conference for Basic Sciences and Sustainable Development


     Dr. Youssef Gharbawy, President of South Valley University, inaugurated the Second International Conference for Basic Sciences and Sustainable Development at South Valley University organized by the Faculty of Science from 7 to 9 February, in the presence of Dr. Abbas Mansour, the Former President of the University, Dr. Ahmed Akkawy, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Badawy Shahat, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Kamal Nasary, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Suhair Ahmed Rabie, former Vice President of the University, Dr. Khaled bin Al-Waleed, Dean of the Faculty of Science in Qena, former deans, faculty members and Participants in Conference Events.

The University President greeted the conference guests from Egyptian universities, stressing the university’s interest in supporting the scientific research system, encouraging scholarly publishing and developing the capacity of researchers. Urging the participants in the conference to make the most of the activities of the conference, noting the importance of linking scientific research to development issues and providing solutions, as well as praising the participation of students of the final year in the Faculty of Science in the activities of the conference. He also congratulated all members of the Faculty of Science to mark the Fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty, during which it led the scientific research process at the university through generations of distinguished scientists and researchers.

     For his part, Dr. Ahmed Akkawy referred to the university’s efforts to achieve the goals of sustainable development through various activities and research in the fields of anti-poverty, water, gender equality, energy, climate, innovation and economic development. He stressed that the university pays great attention to providing high-quality educational opportunities, and these efforts have been reflected in the university’s progress in various international rankings.

      Dr. Khaled bin Al-Waleed emphasized the importance of scientific research in supporting sustainable development issues and addressing the challenges facing society in various issues. He added that the activities of the conference include a discussion of 45 research thesis from Egyptian and international universities. Researchers from universities in the United States of America, Germany, Finland, Australia, India, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and a number of Egyptian universities participate in the conference. He pointed out that 3 awards will be allocated for the most distinguished research papers in the conference, with the names of a number of late elite symbols at the faculty, Dr. Ahmed Safwat, Dr. Sameh Halawy and Dr. Adel Al-Danqlawy, in recognition of their great role in the college’s progress.                                                              At the end of the opening, Dr. Khaled bin Al-Walid presented the college shield to Dr. Youssef Gharbawy, President of the University.
