Elimination of Violence against Women


Under the supervision of Vice-President for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abulfadl Badran, Elimination of Violence against Women Unit organized a symposium entitled “Combating Harassment and Violence against Women”. Prof. Dr. Youssuf Gherbawy, President of the University, talked about the symposium that was a part of the celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. During his speech, he emphasized the university support to the issue of harassment and violence against women and girls that is one of the most widespread violations of human rights. To raise awareness and trigger action to end this scourge, the university established Elimination of Violence against Women Unit that organized many training courses for girls in this regard. The main objective of the symposium was how to end this type of violence that was defined as any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual, or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty as stated by Dr. Hoda Al-Saady and Dr. Ali Al-Din Al-Kasaby.
