Dr. Hamam El-Shazly, Recipient of the State Encouragement Award: “We Aim to Serve the Community and Achieve Technical Leadership in Scientific Research”

Dr. Hamam El-Shazly, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Computers and Information in Qena and recipient of the State Encouragement Award in Engineering Sciences, emphasized that the research system at South Valley University, under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Akkawi, is dedicated to producing research that addresses societal issues and contributes to finding solutions.

Dr. El-Shazly discussed his contributions through various research projects aimed at understanding and interpreting intelligent systems and advancing research in artificial intelligence (AI) across different domains. His research focuses on interpretable AI, which, despite the existence of various models and methodologies for interpreting AI results, still lacks the desired level of accuracy and transparency. The ability to explain and interpret AI model results is crucial for identifying weaknesses, allowing researchers and developers to improve these systems and build trust in AI-dependent technologies.

He also highlighted his work on models that aid in recognizing individuals through ear images and walking patterns. These models enable machines to identify content in images and videos, as well as individuals’ identities, contributing to applications such as surveillance, access control, and personal safety.
