The awareness meetings for literacy in Qena Governorate concluded today. These meetings, which lasted for a week, included one session in each center of Qena Governorate. This annual summer awareness campaign, organized by South Valley University for its students in the governorates of Qena, Luxor, and the Red Sea, is part of the national literacy project.
Under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Akawy, President of the University, and Dr. Mohamed Said, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, the final meeting was held at the Youth Center Hall in Aziziyah. It was attended by university students from the Dishna and Al-Waqf centers.
The meeting was opened by Dr. Atiyat Al-Shawari, coordinator and professor at the Faculty of Specific Education, who spoke about the importance of adult education in South Upper Egypt. She highlighted the historical lack of focus on female education in earlier years, leading to a generation of uneducated and unaware individuals, which results in an illiterate society. Dr. Al-Shawari emphasized the necessity of eradicating illiteracy, particularly in the southern regions, to promote community development. She urged students to start with their immediate family, and then extend their efforts to the wider community, to effectively combat illiteracy.
