Community Dialogue at South Valley University on Environmental and Climate Issues in Egypt


Dr. Yasmin Fouad, Minister of Environment, Dr. Khaled Abdel-Halim, Governor of Qena, and Dr. Ahmed Akkawi, President of South Valley University, attended a community dialogue session with the university’s students and representatives of civil society organizations from Qena Governorate. The session was held in the university’s main conference hall in Qena as part of an awareness campaign implemented by South Valley University in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment. The campaign aims to raise awareness about Egypt’s nature reserves, biodiversity, sustainable development goals, and the circular economy. This event was also part of the Minister of Environment’s visit to Qena Governorate.

The event was attended by Dr. Badawi Shahat, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Saeed, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Mohamed Wael Abdel-Azim, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Mohamed Ismail, Academic Deputy to the University President for the Private University, members of the Parliament and Senate from Qena, deans and vice deans of faculties, representatives from the National Program for Solid Waste Management, the Sustainable Development Unit at the Ministry of Environment, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the National Council for Women in Qena, along with several officials from the Ministry of Environment, Qena Governorate, and South Valley University. The event saw a large attendance of students from various faculties of the university.
