As part of the presidential initiative “A New Beginning for Building the Human,” launched by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to focus on the Egyptian individual, build their capacities, develop their skills, enhance their efficiency, protect them from zoonotic diseases, and provide healthy and secure food, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine organized a seminar for World Rabies Day, under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Akkawy, President of South Valley University, and Dr. Mohamed Said, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development.
In his speech, Dr. Mohamed Said emphasized the importance of community awareness regarding rabies and its prevention methods. He pointed out the significant efforts made by the Egyptian state to eliminate the disease by 2030 through a long-term strategic plan that includes extensive vaccination campaigns for animals, increasing community awareness, improving health services related to the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, and international cooperation in this field. He highlighted the severity of rabies as a fatal viral disease transmitted through bites from infected animals to humans, stressing the ineffectiveness of treatment after the onset of symptoms.
