A Symposium Entitled “Ending Violence against Women” at Faculty of Arts


Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Youssef Ghrabawy, President of South Valley University, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Kamal Nassary, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and in cooperation with the National Council for Women in Qena, Faculty of Arts organized a symposium entitled “Ending Violence against Women”. Dr. Ghrabawy stated that South Valley University is concerned with women’s issues in society, as the university has established a unit for combating violence against women that aims to protect women from all forms of violence.

The symposium discussed some important points as the following:

  • The psychological effects on women as a result of these practices, the extent of their harm, and their consequences on the family and society.
  • The role of the National Council for Women in supporting women’s issues in society and intensifying efforts to enhance their position in all fields.
  • The need for women to be aware of their rights.
  • The forms of violence against women that are criminalized by the law.
  • The importance of starting to enact more legislation that guarantees women the right to live in safe community.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abul Fadl Badran, former vice president of the university, professors of Faculty of Arts, members of the National Council for Women and a number of students witnessed the symposium.
