Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Youssef Gharbawy, President of South Valley University, Dr. Ahmed Akawy Abdel Aziz, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Dr. Ali Abdel Rahman Goel, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Qena, the events of the Fourth Scientific Conference of the Department of Internal Medicine, which was held in Luxor from 20-21 October, launched.
in his address, Dr. Ahmed Akkawy conveyed the greetings of Dr. Youssef Gharbawy, President of the University, and his keenness for the success of this conference, stressing the importance of the specialty of internal medicine and its role in the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of acute and chronic diseases, noting that female doctors represent 75% of the total members of this specialty which reflects the vital and effective role of Egyptian women. He also commended the significant scientific research provided in this specialty compared to other medical disciplines.
The Vice President of the University also pointed to the need to develop a strategic plan to achieve administrative and professional excellence for the specialization of internal medicine in order to achieve leadership in the field in the Middle East and stressed the need for attention to the development of the principles of professional ethics and clinical practice.
At the end of his speech, he commended the great role of the Internal medicine Department in Qena, which, despite its modernity, has brought about a great change in the society of Upper Egypt through specialized units providing services to the people of the region. He also thanked Dr. Ali Abdel Rahman Goel, Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Hagag Mansour, Executive Director of University Hospitals, hospital directors, and all medical providers at South Valley University.
In his speech, Dr. Hossam Ismail, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine in Qena, and President of the Conference thanked Dr. Youssef Gharbawy, President of the University, for his permanent sponsorship of all the Department’s medical and scientific activities, which had a great impact on its development. He also welcomed guests from Egyptian university professors, young researchers, and students, stressing that the conference aims to exchange and transfer experiences and comprehensively upgrade the specialization of internal medicine in Egypt, and reviewing the services provided by the department such as the cardiac catheterization unit, the artificial kidney unit, the diagnostic endoscopy unit, the fibroscan unit, the hematology unit, in addition to the outpatient clinics.
It is worth mentioning that the opening of the conference was attended by Dr. Abdul Qader Al Hashemy, Head of the Nephrology Unit at Qena University Hospital and Secretary of the Conference, Dr. Muhammad Taj Al-Din, Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology and Coordinator of the Conference, Dr. Abdul Hakim Arian, Secretary of the Conference and Conference Coordinator, Dr. Areej Al-Khatib, Dr. Ahlam Sabra, Dr. Shaimaa Abdullah, Dr. Yousry Al-Sharqawi, Dr. Hoda Abdel Hamid, Dr. Ahmed Gaber, Chairman of the Scientific Committee, and Dr. Muhammad Abdullah, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, in addition to many professors in the field in Egyptian universities, young researchers, and doctors of Qena University Hospitals.
