Qena University Hospitals succeeds in the First Injection of a Child suffering from Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS I).

Prof. Dr Youssef Gharbawy, President of South Valley University, announced the success of the Pediatrics Department’s medical team at Qena University Hospitals in the first injection of a child suffering from Mucopolysaccharidosis(MPS I).

Dr Hajaji Mansour, Executive Director of University Hospitals, indicated that this medical success comes within the framework of the development of medical services & medical departments in Qena University Hospitals in order to improve the offered medical services to the Upper Egyp’s citizens in the region instead of the cumbersome and costly treatment trips to other provinces, and this comes in light of the continuous support for university hospitals from Prof. Dr Youssef Gharbawy, President of the University, and Prof. Dr Ali Ghul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

Dr Khaled Abdullah Abdel-Baseer, Head of the Pediatrics Department at Qena University Hospitals, added that after discussing the case of a two-year-old child noted that the child was suffering from Delayed motor and mental development, as reported by the medical team, headed by Dr Ali Helmy Bakry, Pediatric Neurologist at Qena Medicine Faculty, that the child is suspected of having “Mucopolysaccharidosis” disease, for that the genetic sequence analysis of the patient has requested, which confirmed that he has that disease, the child started receiving the first dose of treatment, is being followed up and the treatment program is being completed.

The administration of the treatment at the state’s expense is entrusting with providing this treatment weekly, and this patient receives the doses inside the pediatric intensive care unit in the department, in cooperation with the Comprehensive care authority in Luxor Government under the supervision of Dr Ismail Al-Araby.

Worth mentioning that the treating medical team included Dr Safaa Ahmed, Assistant Teacher of Pediatric Neurology, Dr Asmaa Jamal, Assistant Teacher Pediatric Neurologist, Dr Islam Taqi, and Dr Salsabil Taj El-Din, Assistant Teacher in the Intensive Care Unit in the Pediatric department, the doctors residing in the department and central care as well.
