Qena University Council Approves New Conferences, Academic Promotions, and Digital Initiatives

Qena University Council, in its recent session held at the university headquarters, approved a series of academic, organizational, and technological advancements. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Akkawy, President of the University.

The Council officially approved the scheduling of the First Scientific Conference for Young Researchers at the Faculty of Education, set to take place on Tuesday, November 10, 2026. The event will focus on promoting innovative educational research and fostering knowledge exchange among early-career scholars, postgraduate students, and academic mentors. Additionally, approval was granted for the First Conference on Heritage and Development, to be hosted in Hurghada from 27 to 29 October 2026.

In a bid to enhance community health and research capabilities, the Council ratified a new cooperation protocol between the Faculty of Medicine and the Qena Health Directorate.

Logistically, the Council approved the relocation of the Leather Technology Lab from the central Unit of Laboratories to the Faculty of Specific Education. Furthermore, the Council reviewed a comprehensive performance report from the National Bank for Scientific Laboratories and Devices, spanning September 2025 to May 2026, which highlighted significant upgrades made to the university’s research infrastructure.

 Advancements in Digital Governance and AI

Emphasizing the university’s commitment to modernization, several presentations on digital transformation and electronic governance were delivered during the session:

  • “Adl” Application: An electronic platform presented by Dr. Imad Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science.
  • “Bsma” & “Ex Money” Systems: An attendance management system and an external financial transactions program, both reviewed by Engineer Ali Fikry, Director of the University Information Center.
  • “Resources” Application: Presented by Dr. Jamal Abdullah, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science.
  • E-Learning Initiatives: A blueprint for the International Center for E-Learning and Distance Education, presented by Dr. Khaled bin Al-Waleed, Dean of the Faculty of Science.

 Faculty Honors and Academic Promotions

During the session, University President Dr. Ahmed Akkawy honored Dr. Abdel Aziz Sheiba, expressing deep appreciation for his leadership and dedication during his tenure as the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture.

The Council also approved the following academic promotions and appointments:

Promotion to Professor

  • Dr. Hala Mohamed Sakhr Ahmed Suliman (Faculty of Medicine)
  • Dr. Ayman Jamaa Salman Ahmed (Faculty of Medicine).

Promotion to Assistant Professor

  • Dr. Abdel Nasser Ahmed Mohamed Khalil (Faculty of Education).
  • Dr. Khalaf Allah Khalaf Asran Ali (Faculty of Arts).
  • Dr. Nora Abdel-Aty Barshawy Atta (Faculty of Specific Education).
  • Dr. Abdel Moemen Oweis Badry Barry (Faculty of Physical Education).
  • Dr. Amal Mohamed Saady Abdel Rahman (Faculty of Media and Mass Communication).

Faculty Appointments
Dr. Fatma Ahmed Othman Jahoury was appointed to the position of Lecturer in the Faculty of Specific Education.

Graduate Degrees and Diplomas Awarded

  • The Council concluded by celebrating student achievements, officially granting 13 Ph.D. degrees and 57 Master’s degrees across various disciplines.
  • 21 postgraduate students from the Faculty of Science, who earned their Diploma in Applied Microbiology (Second Round).
  • 10 postgraduate students who passed the April 2026 session, earning their Diploma in Veterinary Medical Sciences (Biochemistry and Food Control).
  • 13 nursing students who were awarded the Technical Nursing Institute Diploma (September 2025 session).
