Prof. Dr. Ahmed Akkawy, President of South Valley University, announced the results of the Arab classification of Arab Universities in its first edition according to the announced results from the Arab University Association, where South Valley University ranked 49 Arabs among 115 universities included in this classification, and the number of universities that applied for evaluation reached 208. The Arab classification is based on several indicators and criteria in which universities are evaluated, including the quality of teaching and learning, the excellence of faculty members, scientific research, creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation, in addition to the index of international and local cooperation in the Arab region and community service.
According to the announcement of Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Arab Universities Association, on the first version of the result of the Arab Classification of Universities 2023, which is based on the concerted efforts of the Arab Universities Association in cooperation with the League of Arab States(LAS), the Arab League Educational, Cultural &Scientific Organization (ALECSO), and the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils. Among the main conditions fulfilled by the universities included in the classification is that they are educational and research universities. The classification has four key evaluation performance indicators, and everyone has nine sub-performance criteria.
The key performance indicators are:
1)”teaching and learning” (30%).
2)”scientific research” (30%).
3) “creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation” (20%).
4)”international and local cooperation and community service” (20%).
Dr. Hamouda Mohamed, Chairman of the University’s Classification Committee, stated that according to the virtual announcement meeting and the classification website, the number of universities that applied for evaluation reached 208 universities, of which 115 universities representing 16 countries out of a total of 22 countries of the League of Arab States were included in the classification, and these countries were arranged according to the number of advanced universities as follows: [Egypt (28), Iraq (19), Jordan (18), Yemen (10), Palestine (8), Libya (8), Saudi Arabia (7), Tunisia (4), Syria (3), United Arab Emirates (2), Morocco (2), Lebanon (2), Bahrain (1), Algeria (1), Somalia (1), Kuwait (1)]
