On the third day of the annual summer literacy awareness sessions organized by South Valley University for its students in Qena, Luxor, and the Red Sea governorates, under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Akkawi, the university president, and Dr. Mohamed Saeed, the vice president for community service and environmental development, two meetings were held.
The first meeting took place at the Naqada City Council Hall, involving students from the Naqada center. It included Mr. Zein El-Din Abul Hassan, Deputy Head of the Naqada Center, Dr. Mohamed Sayed, Director of the Adult Education Center, and Mr. Mohamed El Kamel, General Coordinator of the University’s literacy eradication project. The session also had the participation of the director of the literacy department in Naqada and coordinators from the faculties of Commerce and Arts, along with a large group of university students from the Naqada center.
Simultaneously, another meeting was held at the Qus Culture Palace Hall, attended by students from the Qus and Qeft centers, along with the directors of the literacy departments in Qus and Qeft, and a significant number of university students.
The discussions in both meetings focused on the number of illiterate individuals in the three centers: 76,000 in Qus, 30,000 in Naqada, and 16,000 in Qeft. A list with the names of illiterate individuals was obtained to facilitate student communication with them for literacy eradication purposes. The university has this list available through the coordinators of the faculties.
