A workshop at Qena University Hospitals succeeds in expanding the mitral valve by cardiac catheterization as an alternative to open-heart surgeries


Under the auspices of Prof. Dr Youssef Gharbawy, President of South Valley University, Prof. Dr Ali Abdel Rahman Ghoel, Dean of the Medicine Faculty in Qena, and Dr Mohamed Youssef, Executive Director of Qena University Hospitals, with the participation of Prof. Dr Reda Mahfouz, Professor of Cardiology at the National Heart Institute and an expert at Alberta University in Canada, a workshop was organized by Qena University Hospitals to expand the mitral valve by balloon through cardiac catheterization for cases of rheumatic heart disease and mitral valve stenosis

Dr Hossam Ismail, Assistant Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at Qena Medicine Faculty and Head of the Cardiac Catheterization Unit at University Hospitals of Qena, pointed out that the workshop came as a continuation of the distinguished services provided by the Cardiac Catheterization Unit, which already extended the mitral valve by balloon through cardiac catheterization for 5 cases of rheumatic heart disease and mitral valve stenosis, and the Patients were discharged in good health the day after the catheterization.
