The pyramids, the Valley of the Kings or Queens, and the mummies... the image which we all have in our minds when we think of Egypt is mostly an image of the great pharaonic past of the country. However, there was another important time in the history of Egypt when the country on the Nile and Europe came into close contact and learned a lot from each other. That is the time with which Greek Papyrology deals.

Loving the GESP Programme

After a lengthy stay for medical training in the US I returned to Germany in 2007 to start a research group in rheumatology at the University Children’s Hospital in Dresden. Shortly after my arrival I received a warmly written inquiry from a trainee in rheumatology at Sohag University, Egypt, as whether I might sponsor him for an application for a PhD scholarship in Germany, the DAAD-sponsored GERLS. Well, we tried, but Ahmed did not get funded, and we were also not successful when we tried for the CHANNEL program.
