Symposium on “Methods of Palm Weevil Control”

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Abbas Mansour, the university president and the supervision of Environmental Affairs sector, South Valley University organized Symposium entitled “Methods of Palm Weevil Control” Where prof. Dr. Sayed Taha, Vice President for Environmental Affairs talked about the importance of science and using it to achieve scientific progress for solving environmental problems including palm weevil, stressing on providing the necessary climate for developing scientific ideas and its application While Prof. Dr. Atef Elewa, professor at Institute of Agricultural Engineering Research talked about the onset of palm weevil, which entered Egypt through infected seedlings that imported from abroad, he also mentioned the most important stages of the development of control device, which was evaluated three times to know its efficiency in the elimination of injury and has achieved a success over 90% .

   On the other hand, Eng. Al-Nubi Hakki, project manager Salasel project in Luxor, said that the project was supervised by United Nations Development Programme for agenda of Salasel project, which solving the actual problems of farmers after the meeting with them and the most important problems that the project solved problem of palm weevil , symposium  was attended by academic staff and their assistants at Faculty of Agriculture as well as number of agronomists in Agriculture Directorate .
