- Function of  UESD The Unit of Environmental Studies and Development (UESD) was established at Aswan,South    
Activities of the Unit
- State of the Environment  Valley University,  after a long history  of environmental research and training activities that were carried out by the staff of the Faculty of Science in Aswan and Glasgow University.
- Research  These activities were instrumental in declaring two conservation areas in Aswan Governorate:
Training in Environmentally the First Cataract islands in 1986; and Wadi Allaqi in 1989, which is Egypt's second Biosphere
Sustainable Development  Reserve asdeclared by UNESCO in 1993.
Data Bank Project  
Collaborative projects  These activities included work on sustainable development in the Eastern Desert, particularly
National and International  the Wadi Allaqi Biosphere Reserve. During these activities there were positive links with a number of Egyptian and international institutions and organizations UNESCO - Cousteau
Conferences
Monitoring network  Ecotechnie  Chair on Environment and Development was created at the UESD in December 1996.
