History
Faculty of Medicine in Qena started with Presidential Decree No. 267 of 2006 , and it is one of the faculties of South Valley University in Upper Egypt, which was established by presidential Decree No. 23 of 1995, after its faculties were a branch of Assiut University.
The study began in the Faculty in the academic year 2007/2008 and since that moment, The Faculty strives to fulfill its academic role to educate and graduate highly qualified and skilled doctors to serve the community.
The Faculty building was initially chosen to be the Faculty of Dentistry building for the academic education of the faculty campus, with the increasing number of students arriving, a separate building was established for the Faculty of Medicine to be appropriate for the quality of the educational process, and The building is located next to the Faculty of Nursing and the Faculty of Physiotherapy, and in front of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Dentistry, in a site that achieves spatial convergence and facilitates movement between all faculties of the university’s health sector.
The Faculty has 31 departments, ten of which are academic departments that teach basic medical sciences, In addition to twenty one clinical departments working in university hospitals, there are two departments under establishment, namely the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Medical Education.
The University Hospital began its work in 2008, and the Ma’aber building was chosen to be the nucleus to start the stage of preparing the clinical departments, then the departments of general and special surgery, the orthopedics department, and the internal departments of the Kilo 6 hospital were separated in 2014, to keep the departments of obstetrics, gynecology, children, tract surgery, ophthalmology, nose and ear in Al Ma’abar Hospital.
The faculty developed a replacement and expansion plan, so an integrated building was built for the clinics of all departments, next to Kilo 6 Hospital, and a special emergency building was built to work throughout the week for all departments this year. The hospital now operates to receive injuries on two days of the week.
Faculty of Medicine in Qena has become a well-established entity in the heart of Upper Egypt with 330 faculty members working on the educational process for 1656 undergraduate students and 363 postgraduate students for the year 2019-2020 in addition to the research and service side.

Qena College of Medicine – South Valley University is committed to graduating a doctor who is able to practice the profession and meet the needs of the medical system in Egypt regionally and internationally, and researchers who are able to develop the medical profession at a high competitive research level, and to provide distinguished community medical services within the framework of maintaining the rules and ethics of the profession and community values through Continuous development of educational programs, scientific research tools, and continuous medical education mechanisms.

The goals and strategic objectives of the Faculty of Medicine Qena 2018/2019 – 2022/2023 AD
First Strategic Goal: (Graduating a distinguished doctor with high efficiency who is able to meet the needs of society and solve its problems)
1- Converting the student from a receptive element to a reactive element.
2- Development of education systems, evaluation and curricula.
3- Establishing the Family Medicine Department.
4- Establishing the Medical Education Department.
5- Development of scientific resources, work environment and education in the college.
6- Capacity development of faculty members and the administrative staff.
Second Strategic Goal:(Supporting the college’s medical education quality management system and qualifying the college for accreditation by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation)
7- Increasing awareness of the importance of quality among faculty members and their assistants.
8- Obtaining accreditation from the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation.
9- Obtaining more material and technical support for the Quality Assurance Unit.

10- The quantitative and qualitative improvement of the faculty research production.

The core values of the Faculty
Transparency and Accountability:
The Faculty depends on implementing the existing laws that actually work within the various department of the faculty strictly, with investigating that gurantees the fair application of the laws.

Work mastery in all steps and stages, and the adoption of national standards to ensure quality as a reference.
Quality:
The National Authority For Quality Assurance of Educational and Accreditation is a major goal in the current stage, taking into consideration finding an actual basis for the quality standards that guarantees sustainability and preservation of quality, and accessing them to be a pattern of work that does not depend on individuals, but on the constituent units of the faculty.
Professional Ethics:
Medical profession is one of the professions that require an ethical charter, it must be adhered and instilled in the conscience of graduates.

Communication and Harmony between the organizational structure of the faculty and students:
The necessit of creating communication channels to consolidate relationships between the organizational structure of the faculty and administration to ensure the particiption of all employees and students in the development of the educational, administrative and research process.

Updating teaching and evaluation methods, in addition to encourage innovation by supporting scientific research and various student activities.
